Sergio Mexican silver and obsidian modernist Necklace

$315.00

Sergio is another one of Taxco’s “enigmatic” names. Whether a maestro or a retailer is not known nor is their relationship - if any at all - with the other Sergio whose name is signed in script. Over the years of my buying and selling vintage Mexican silver jewelry, I have come upon a few examples of their work - and I loved them all. The modernist articulated necklace I am presenting here, very much in the spirit of Sigi Pineda’s designs, is the epitome of minimalism. Clean, crisp lines, a gorgeous teardrop obsidian with glistening, mysterious depths and beautiful patina come together around the neck to celebrate the honesty of materials used and the creator’s strong sense of design…

Size / Weight: 15” inner circumference (clasped); “pendant” motif adds a 1 1/2” drop and is 1 5/8” wide; 80 grams (on a postal scale)

Hallmarks / Date: “SERGIO” partially stamped as well as “HECHO EN MEXICO”, “STERLING”, des. no 5 and Eagle 3 assay mark; 1960s-70s

Condition: excellent vintage with strong, eye-catching design, a beautiful piece of obsidian, great patina and no damage or repairs noted
