Peruzzi style Italian Deco silver Cimaruta Pendant Necklace
It's been a while since I offered a vintage Italian silver cimaruta necklace but today I hope to prove the wait worth-while with this gorgeous set from the first decades of the 20th c.. An ancient talisman associated with Southern Italy, the cimaruta was used to protect against the evil eye and in our days, it has been re-invigorated as a powerful wiccan symbol. Signed by a contemporary to the Peruzzi and Coppini Bros Italian maker whom I haven't been able to identify, the pendant has eye-catching size and good casting. The chain it comes with is of the same period and tradition, formed by alternating fleur-de-lis and floral links; which you can, of course, match with your other vintage or antique pendants...
Size / Weight: pendant is 2 1/2" long (without the bail) by 2 3/8" wide; with the bail it adds a 2 3/4" drop to the chain; chain itself is 23" long; 45.1 grams (for the set)
Hallmarks / Date: maker's mark "FNCo" as shown; not hallmarked for metal quality yet tested and guaranteed to be solid silver of at least .800 purity, which was the Italian standard until 1934; 1920s-40s
Condition: excellent vintage with crisp detail in the casting and cut-outs, great patina, good sculpturality in the pendant and no damage or repairs noted
