Mexican silver repousse Quetzalcoatl Clamper Bracelet

SOLD

It's been a very long time since I offered a Mexican clamper bracelet and I am happy to be starting again with a classic Taxco design, this repousse and shadowbox "Quetzalcoatl" example. The maestro who signs it I am familiar with - he worked in Taxco and it seems that clamper bracelets were one of his favorite forms. Always beautifully executed, his repoussage has good sculpturality and finishing and his jewelry, albeit not as heavy as those of the big talleres, has the weight necessary to impart a commanding presence. Shown with its long tongue protruding the "divine" beast is here mirrored in the bracelet's two wings, its scaly body unfolding around the wrist against a heavily oxidized background. Definitely statement-making...

Size / Weight: inner circumference 7" (adjustable upwards thanks to the hinged construction); width between 3" and 1"; 49.8 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials "JC" as well as "MADE IN TAXCO" albeit badly stamped and Eagle 3 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with good repoussage, the oxidation in great shape, beautiful patina and a strong, snappy hinge with no sign of looseness; no damage or any repairs noted either
