Mexican silver and tiger's eye modernist Necklace
Molten caramel golds and shimmering coffee browns are reflected in warmly mellowed silver in this modernist Mexican pendant necklace with neck ring. Very Scandinavian in design, necklaces of this type are not very common in the world of vintage Mexican jewelry and I consider myself even luckier to have come upon this exquisite example because it is also a pre-1980 creation. Though the necklace could have been crafted at any point between 1948 and 1980, for me it has a distinct early 1970s vibe and it is a pleasure to behold. I just wish we knew more about its maker…
Size / Weight: 14 1/2” inner circumference (clasped); pendant adds a 2 3/4” drop and is 1 7/8” wide; 59.0 grams (on a postal scale)
Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “FRA”(?) as well as “925”, “MEXICO” and Eagle 3 assay mark; 1960s-70s
Condition: excellent vintage featuring a slick, mod design, having a richly colored, yummy stone, great patina, with no damage and no repairs noted
