Mexican silver and sodalite Spanish Colonial Ring

$98.00

If I saw this piece from far away, I would think it's a poison ring - that's how impressive in size and lift its gallery is. Yet not to worry, there is no hidden compartment here and you won't be tempted to become a modern-day Lucrezia Borgia! Beauty and commanding presence, though, yes! There is a lot of that in the sodalite's dark blue depths with their cloudy grey swirls and that river of black cutting across right through the cab's middle. And even though a ring offers a relatively small area to demonstrate one’s talent, the Taxco maestro was able to work his magic in creating a Spanish Colonial-inspired “pierced” gallery to surround the stone. Did I mention already that the ring is fully adjustable too thanks to its open shank?

Size / Weight: currently sz 6 US yet fully adjustable (thanks to the open shank); face is 1 3/16" N-S by approx. 13/16" E-W; just shy of 1/2" rise; 8.7 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials "FVN" as well as "TAXCO MEXICO ..." alongside Eagle 3 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with a big, beautiful stone, deep color, nice cut-work design and warmly glowing patina, with no damage and no repairs noted other than the ring is ever so slightly out of round; this doesn't affect wearability or presence and can be easily remedied by your jeweler or even yourself, if you feel up to it
