Mexican silver amethyst serpents and fish Belt Buckle ~ Harmon design

SOLD

A carefully crafted copy of one of Hubert Harmon's Mexican designs, this fabulous sterling silver and amethyst belt buckle is anonymous yet, as quite often is the case, the lack of a signature does not affect the piece's quality and beauty. I suspect this may be a Casa Maya example based on the workmanship though their work is usually signed. I will also admit that I held on to this treasure for several years thinking I would have it converted to a necklace - can you see it combined with black velvet in your mind's eye? I never got around to doing it though and today I decided to offer it as is - which is simply fabulous! Serpent heads with scales; twist-wire and beading as well as bezel-set amethyst cabs for ornamentation; big sterling rings held in the serpents' mouths; and a catch of three fish rendered in-the-round hanging off those rings, their purple little eyes staring at each other. Magical...

Size / Weight: 7 1/2" long (stretched out and measured end-to-end); fish dangles are 2 1/4" (including the ring off which they hang); serpent heads are 2 1/2" long by 1 1/8" wide each; buckle will accommodate a belt up to 7/8" wide; 82.5 grams

Hallmarks / Date: "STERLING MEXICO"; 1940s

Condition: excellent vintage with stunning presence, great patina (you can always polish a bit, if you so desire), generous weight and beautiful stones, with no damage and no repairs noted
