Mexican Deco silver copper shell ballerina Brooch

$0.00
SOLD

It seems that I am bumping into ballerinas lately but I find these figural brooches so much fun and irresistible! So here we have her, a Mexican Deco example from Taxco, wrought in sterling silver and copper and adorned with abalone inlay. Overlay, oxidation, shimmering shell and the careful hand of the maestro come together to shape her. Yet it is her brio and the merry sounds of her tambourine that make you wonder: could this be vivacious little Kitri, just jumped off the stage in the middle of a Don Quixote performance?

Size / Weight: 2 1/4” tall by 1 1/2” wide; 8.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “EF” as well as “TAXCO STERLING 925” and “HECHO EN MEXICO”; 1930s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with endearing detail and character, great patina and no damage or repairs noted
