Mexican Deco silver "chain mail" Necklace Earrings set
So-called "chain mail" jewelry is not uncommon in the world of vintage Mexican silver. One can find them in all forms, with or without stones, and in all widths, signed by known maestros and by less-celebrated makers as well. There is something very slick about this design, its interwoven "mesh" inhabiting quite comfortably both the Art Deco and early modernist worlds. The necklace at hand is an example of the narrower versions but very well made and with good weight to it. It came to me with its matching earrings and this the way I would love to send it to its next caretaker...
Size / Weight: 15 1/2" long (wearable) by 7/8" wide for the necklace; earrings are 1/2" square; 40.8 grams for the necklace / 4.4 grams for the earrings / 45.2 grams for the set
Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials "JL" (?) as well as "STERLING MEXICO" and "0925" on necklace; earrings are not hallmarked yet tested and guaranteed to be sterling as well except for the screw-backs which are alpaca; pre-1948
Condition: excellent vintage with warmly glowing patina, very easy to wear whatever the occasion, with no damage and no repairs noted
