Mexican Deco silver and carved onyx idol Pendant Necklace

$0.00
SOLD

I have had full-sized Mexican silver and stone "idol" pendant necklace before but none like this exquisite example I am presenting here. Beautifully carved and visually imposing, the pendant's onyx Aztec / Maya male figure is shown in what I believe might be a supplication position. Cross-hatched bracelets carved into the stone hug his wrists while a silver necklace and an impressive headdress are the only other adornments covering his naked body. Suspended on an entirely hand-wrought sterling chain original to the necklace, this could easily be a "one-of-a-kind" piece and I am thrilled to be offering it here...

Size / Weight: pendant is 3" tall by 1 1/4" wide and approx. 3/4" deep; 23 1/4" long; 49.2 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials "JCR" as well as "MEXICO TAXCO 925"; 1940s

Condition: excellent vintage with its carved idol wonderfully tactile, fantastic presence and patina, with a substantial hand-wrought chain and no damage or repairs noted
