Mexican Deco 980 silver and turquoise hinged Bracelet

$250.00

The story of this Mexican Deco silver and turquoise hinged bangle is an interesting one. When it came to me, it had a rather hastily applied gold plating that looked both out of place and, should I say?, garish. I cannot understand why anybody would do such a thing yet many a time, in discussions with older bench jewelers, I have been told that a few decades ago this was indeed a trend of sorts. Very rarely do I decide to intervene in a similarly dramatic way on old jewelry but this was a very particular case. Fine, 980 silver, indicative of the bracelet's early age, was smothered under that plating and I wanted it to see the light again. And even though I do like antique gold and turquoise jewelry, I find the stone's combination with silver irresistible. So off to the jeweler it went once again and here you have it now, just like when it first came out of the workshop. Enjoy it right away in its original form and rest assured that given a bit of time it will again develop the warm, glowing patina that used to showcase the gorgeous blues and green of its cabs...

Size / Weight: 7 1/4" inner circumference (clasped) by 3/4" wide; 35.5 grams

Hallmarks / Date: "980" as shown as well as "HECHO EN MEXICO" yet very lightly and partially stamped; pre-1948

Condition: excellent vintage with beautiful stones, impressive presence and no damage or repairs noted (except for the gold-plating that has been taken off - please, see description above)
