Mexican Deco 3-strand silver and stone bead Bracelet

$0.00
SOLD

Strung on cotton as many early Mexican Deco pieces of jewelry are (I have in the past sold an early Aguilar "lyre" necklace that was strung in that way too!) this 3-strand bracelet is made up of hand-turned dyed calcite beads. The color variation in the stone goes from opaque medium green to semi-translucent light yellow/green and the striations in it makes it look like malachite. Yet the piece-de-resistance is here the sculptural box of the clasp. Oval in shape, the box holds a big cabochon in a hefty bezel, the housing of the stone adding a second level to the silver finding. Pieces with clasps like this are not easy to find and sometimes they are signed by Palacios. Our bracelet is anonymous but it's anonymity does not mean it lacks in beauty and character...

Size / Weight: 6 3/4" long (wearable) by 1" wide (the width of the clasp); 54.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: "MADE IN MEXICO" and "SILVER", both double-stamped; 1920s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with rich variation in the color of the stone beads, warm patina in the silver components, comfortable to wear and simply gorgeous with no damage and no repairs noted; the middle strand seems to have a couple of beads more than the other two but this works fine when you have the bracelet on
