Matilde Poulat Matl Mexican silver turquoise Ring
Matilde Poulat needs no introduction to the seasoned Mexican silver collector but I believe her work is equally appreciated by all lovers of bold, earthy, hand-crafted jewelry. Matl’s creations have a unique, powerful character - there is nothing timid or hesitant about them and I cherish them for exactly that. The ring presented here is a design that comes up less frequently than some of her other rings. It features Poulat’s signature wire-work ornamentation and channel-set turquoise cabs but the face is floriform and centered by a big, egg-shaped stone. A veritable feast for the eye…
Size / Weight: sz 5.75 US (a skilled jeweler might be able to resize it but usually we call these non-resizable); face is 1” square with a 3/8” rise; 9.5 grams
Hallmarks / Date: maker’s name inscribed as shown as well as “Mexico 925”; ca 1950
Condition: very good vintage with fantastic patina, gorgeous color in the stones, featuring a design that does not come up often; there is a very small area - and quite difficult to see with a naked eye - in the perimeter of the central stone where an attempt was made to fill in a natural fissure (I am not sure whether it is integral to the ring or happened at some later date but it is almost invisible when you have the ring on)
