Matilde Poulat Matl Mexican silver and amethyst Ring ~ Quetzalcoatl

$0.00
SOLD

I have had this ring in my personal collection for several years now - always meaning to get it sized so I can enjoy - but I finally deciding to let it go. I have only seen this design once before, with a obsidian cab and a different shank but I really love how it looks with the “feathered serpent” jealously guarding an amethyst. Coiled around the stone, Quetzalcoatl is rendered in Mexico City-style repousse with bold recesses and hand-worked details, looking at the world out of a suspicious, apprehensive eye. Divine…

Size / Weight: sz 8 US (easily resized by your jeweler); face is 1 1/8” N-S and 1” E-W; approx. 1/2” rise; 11.5 grams

Hallmarks /Date: profusely signed “STERLING” and “MEXICO” as well as “MATL”; 1930s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with gorgeous patina, beautiful repoussage, a nice stone and no damage or repairs noted except for a small opening in the bezel where its two ends meet; it is not compromising the piece's integrity as the stone is safely kept in its position with no movement at all so I opted not to have it repaired in order to safeguard the ring's original condition
