Margot de Taxco Mexican silver Necklace and Earrings

$550.00

Drawing inspiration from Mexico’s Spanish Colonial past, this sterling silver necklace and earrings set by Margot de Taxco combines dark oxidation with overlay and deep hand-chasing to achieve an elaborate and rich Old World visual effect. I find the central station to resemble a carnival mask - I know, too Venetian but then, carnivals were celebrated in Spain as well though not as elegantly or extravagantly. The earrings, extra wide, mirror the shape of the necklace’s focal point while reflecting the curls in the links of its chain…

Size / Weight: 14 3/4” long (though it might wear longer due to the dip in the central station; easily lengthened with custom-made links; please ask, if interested); central station is 2 1/2” wide with a drop of 1 7/8”; width at the chain is 5/16”; earrings are just shy of 1 1/2” long by equally wide; 63.8 grams (for the set; necklace alone is 49.7 grams)

Hallmarks / Date: fully hallmarked as shown with Margot’s signature, “STERLING MADE IN MEXICO”, Eagle 16 assay mark and des. no 5539; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with its oxidation in great shape (there is a bit of white liquid residue here and there than can be easily removed with a soft brush in lukewarm water), an elegant, classically Spanish Colonial design, great patina and no damage or repairs; please note that the chain has one additional link on one side due to the necklace’s having been shortened at some point - this doesn’t really affect the way it lies around the neck and the missing link can be reproduced (please ask, if interested)
