Los Ballesteros Mexican silver azur-malachite "mask" Pin Pendant

$0.00
SOLD

Natural fissures, a strong presence of malachite in the stone and a stern, determined expression come together in this Los Ballesteros “mask” pin / pendant combination. The “mask’s” uniqueness is framed by an elaborate sterling headdress with stylized feathers, beading and decorative dangles that hang off it. I have to admit that this is one of the most somber “masks” I have seen in Los Ballesteros jewelry, the portrait’s grave expression enhanced by the stone’s mottled color. Yet isn’t he formidable?

Size / Weight: 2 3/8” tall by 2 1/8” wide; 40.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: workshop’s logo as shown as well as “STERLING 925” and a partial “HECHO EN MEXICO”; pre-1948

Condition: excellent vintage with beautiful silver-work, an imposing carved portrait and great patina; please note that the stone has natural fissures that are visible in the chin area but these are integral to it, not damage incurred later and do not affect the piece’s integrity at all
