Los Ballesteros Mexican silver and agate star Earrings

SOLD

Warmly glowing silver starbursts with green agate centers hang off slick, long dangles in this set of vintage Mexican modernist earrings. Eye-catching and fun, the pair is not signed for maker yet it is a design the Los Ballesteros workshop produced. Since one of the earrings is stamped with Eagle 42, one of the marks assigned to the specific makers, I am pretty confident in my attribution. Let me only add that the richness of color in the agates is sheer luxury…

Size / Weight: 2 1/8” long by 1 1/8” wide; 11.5 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date: not signed for maker yet bearing Eagle 42 assay mark which was used by the Los Ballesteros workshop (please also see above for attribution); one of the screwbacks (but not the semi-sphere it is attached to and off which the dangle hangs) is made of alpaca and marked as such (the other is sterling); 1950s-70s

Condition: excellent vintage with gorgeous design, beautiful patina and rich, saturated color in the agate cabs; I suspect one of the screwback-and-semi-sphere combinations is a replacement (please also see note on Hallmarks) yet all findings work properly and there is no damage or any repairs noted
