long Mexican silver Etruscan style barrel-bead Necklace

$415.00

Etruscan style jewelry has been made for centuries and in many parts of the world, especially around the Mediterranean. In Mexico it most probably arrived with the European conquerors and in the 20th c. the maestros of the country’s “Silver Renaissance” created some amazing pieces following that path. Bearing the signature of a Cuernavaca silversmith often mistakenly attributed to Rafael Dominguez, the long necklace I am presenting here is comprised of lengths of hand-made chain and pairs of chunky barrel-beads, the latter decorated with the style’s tell-tale little florets. I am very partial to long chain necklaces and Etruscan jewelry in general and I find this specific example very appealing to the eye and easy to wear. Whether alone or in your …neck mess, it is irresistible…

PS: The matching bracelet you see in one of the photos is by the same maker and also available on the site

Size / Weight: just shy of 34” long by 1/2” wide (the diameter of the barrel beads); 71.5 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “R.D.” though double stamped as well as “HECHO EN MEXICO”, “0.925” and Eagle 108 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage, generously long and pleasantly heavy, with great patina and no damage or repairs noted
