long Mexican Deco silver caged hardstone Chain Necklace
Over the long years of their careers dealers of vintage and antique jewelry recognize the patterns that underlie their selection and, in the end, shape the character, form and era their inventory represents. Long chain necklaces of all kinds are one of those patterns for me and the Mexican examples of sterling-caged tumbled semi-precious and hard- stones are among my favorite. It's been some time since I last offered one and I am happy to be presenting the beauty at hand today. Though a form that seems to have reached the height of its popularity in the 1950s-70s, I am always excited to discover a piece from the earlier, Deco decades like here. Semi-translucent and opaque agate, onyx, azur-malachite, amethyst and different shades of quartz are strung together in a glorious celebration of the fiery, warm colors of fall. Perfect to wear alone yet equally gorgeous in your neck-mess...
Size / Weight: 33 1/2" long (wearable) by approx. 5/8" wide (width varies from stone to stone); 112.2 grams
Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials "SMC" as well as "925 MEXICO"; pre-1948
