Jose Luis Flores for Miguel Mexican silver modernist Necklace
A rare example of Jose Luis Flores’s work to come upon, this distinctly modernist necklace made my day when I discovered it. I have in the past sold the matching bracelet to it but this specific form eluded me for the longest of times and I am thrilled to be offering it here. Made up of links constructed using overlay, hand-cutting and chasing as well as oxidation, it brings to mind Teran's biomorphism and the design's execution is flawless. No wonder many of Flores's jewelry are also signed for Miguel Martinez (like here), Emma Melendez and Rubi Ramirez. Not to mention that his creative genius is also behind pieces that “hit” the market bearing Hector Aguilar's "Taller Borda" hallmarks...
Size / Weight: 16 3/4” long (wearable) by just shy of 7/8” wide; 74.5 grams
Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials as shown as well as "Miguel" in script, "STERLING TAXCO" and des. no 1041; pre-1948
Condition: excellent vintage with glowing patina that enhances the depth of the layered design, very slick and well-crafted, with no damage and no repairs noted
