Jose Anton Mexican silver azur-malachite "warrior" Pendant Necklace
Dating in the 1940s, this massive sterling silver and azur-malachite "mozaico Azteca" inlay pendant necklace is signed by Taxco maestro Jose Anton. I am more used to Anton's repousse work yet from time to time, I do come across some examples that feature overlay and, as in this case, stone inlay. What impresses me here is, of course, the generously sized pendant with its "warrior" silver inlay in profile as well as the detail of the eagle figure floating in the air next to it. Well-made, with the azur-malachite chosen for its rich, saturated colors, a nice example of Mexican Deco "archeological" style jewelry...
PS: The matching bracelet shown in one of the photos is also available and will be offered shortly;
if you don't see it in my store, please ask!
Size / Weight: pendant is 2 3/4" in diameter (without the bail); with the bail it adds a 3 1/8" drop to the chain; chain itself is 18" long by 5/16" wide; 92.3 grams
Hallmarks / Date: maker's signature as shown as well as "STERLING TAXCO"; pre-1948
CONDITION: excellent vintage with impressive proportions, gorgeous coloration in the azur-malachite inlay which is in great shape as well without losses except for a couple of minor superficial pops here and there; warm patina and no damage or repairs noted
