hefty Mexican Deco silver repousse "Aztec Roses" Cuff Bracelet

$285.00

The "Aztec Roses" motif is a classic for Mexican silver cuff bracelet from the Deco period. They are usually executed en repoussage, come in all widths and configurations and the most "famous" ones are signed by Sanborn's and Maciel. The impressive in heft and presence example I am presenting here differs from most in that its repousse work is closed in the back with an additional sheet of sterling. This technique serves at least two purposes as it protects the relief work and adds strength and sturdiness to the piece itself. Three roses, all in full bloom, resting among serrated leaves and delicate stems, take up the decorated space almost in its entirety. The cuff's perimeter is enhanced by a raised band while the roses' background is stippled. For the .... romantic "warrior princess" hiding within...

Size / Weight: 7 1/4" inner circumference (including the 1 3/16" gap; not adjustable - please do not attempt as it will probably cause breaks and cracks to develop); 1 7/16" wide; 71.8 grams

Hallmarks / Date: "STERLING" and "MADE IN MEXICO"; 1920s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with proud, confident repoussage that rises in impressive relief, great patina and nice size / weight, with no unsightly damage nor any repairs present except of some light impressions along the upper and lower perimeters of the cuff; please also note that there is a very small "seam" opening in one of the roses - you can feel it if you run your finger over it but it is otherwise inconspicuous and does not affect presentation or wearability; "bursts" like this developed some times during the crafting process but I have added a detail here for you to assess it yourselves
