Gerardo Lopez Mexican silver and copper "masks" Necklace
One of my absolute favorite designs by Gerardo Lopez, this silver and copper "mask" necklace I have sold a few times during my career as a vintage Mexican jewelry dealer and I never tire of it! There is so much to attract the eye here and every time you look at it, you spot something new and exciting. Meticulously cut, ornate sterling "frames", oxidized and embellished with overlay, surround the highly sculptural copper "masks". Lopez's decision to flank the central "portrait" with smaller versions of it works miracles in attracting the eye and then focusing one's gaze on that stunning, larger medallion. I love the hand-made heftiness of the chain as well, wide and visually strong, which complements the necklace's already impressive presence in the best possible way...
Size / Weight: 15" (original) - 18" long (with the addition of the sterling extension I have included; "masks" part is 7" long with a maximum drop of 2"; 70.0 grams (extension included)
Hallmarks / Date: fully signed with maker's logo as shown alongside Eagle 26 assay mark; 1950s-60s
Condition: excellent vintage with strong sculptural presence, gogeous patina, craftsmanship of the highest levels, with no damage and no repairs noted
