antique Deco Chinese silver vermeil and carved amethyst Ring
The Deco years saw an influx of gorgeous jewelry from China in which, more often than not, contemporary silver work was combined with antique elements like carved semi-precious stone buttons, medallions and even mah-jhong and other game pieces. The ring I am presenting here is an immigrant of that era. Delicate silver vermeil adjustable shank and an old amethyst "button" with a lotus flower carving come together in an understated, classically elegant combination. And did you note the little detail on either side of the shank? Just beautiful...
Size / Weight: currently sz 7 1/2 US (yet resizable thanks to its open shank); face is 3/4" N-S and 1/2" E-W; 5/8" rise; 5.0 grams
Hallmarks / Date: "CHINA" and (I am assuming, workshop) "#171"; not hallmarked for metal quality yet tested and guaranteed to be silver of at least .800 purity though most probably sterling; 1900-1920s
Condition: excellent vintage with gorgeous variation in the amethyst "button's" color, warm, mellowed patina in the vermeil setting, very elegant and having no damage or repairs noted
