antique Asian silver repousse serpents Cuff Bracelet
Meticulously worked and perfectly finished this antique silver repousse cuff bracelet is obviously of Asian origin but I am not quite sure of its exact provenance. I don’t profess any kind of deeper knowledge of the world of Asian jewelry and the existence of cross-pollination and diasporic artisan communities throughout the region (the Indian and Chinese being prominent among them) make its identification a challenge for me. Yet whatever its birthplace might be, this cuff is a little gem of repoussage combined with the shadowbox technique. I love the pronounced, raised bands of undulating serpent bodies and the painstakingly hand-etched details in the foliate belt in the middle. And that patina…
Size / Weight: 6 3/4” inner circumference (including the 1 1/16” gap; not adjustable due to its construction) by 1 3/16” wide; 39.5 grams
Hallmarks / Date: not signed for maker nor hallmarked for metal content yet tested and guaranteed to be solid silver of at least .800 purity, if not higher; difficult to date with accuracy but I would suggest opening decades of the 20th c.
Condition: excellent vintage with masterfully worked repoussage, a pleasure to wear and to behold, great patina and no damage or repairs noted
