Alfredo Villasana Mexican silver and amethyst Ring ~ rare and massive

I thought long and hard before I decided to offer this stunning, very rare vintage Mexican ring by Taxco maestro Alfredo Villasana. When I first acquired it, my intention was to add it to my personal collection. I am a rings enthusiast and the specific design I have never ever seen before in all my years of buying and selling vintage Taxco jewelry. Yet how many rings could one possibly keep for themselves?

It has been a while since I last presented an Alfredo Villasana. A talented silversmith and good designer, he is known not only for his original pieces (which I truly appreciate for their imaginative design and perfect finishing) but also for his high quality jewelery based on pieces first issued by the big talleres, usually of the Los Castillo and Margot de Taxco. This massive ring with its huge faceted amethyst bar, the Art Nouveau flair of the undulating leaves that climb up the sides of its setting to gracefully embrace the stone is very reminiscent of Margot's hand. But then again, why should inspiration only reside with the famous "big name" workshops?

Size / Weight: currently a sz 6 US (resizable by your jeweler, if you don't mind losing the hallmarks); face is 1 1/4" N-S by 3/4" E-W; 1/2" rise; 13.3 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's conjoined initials "AV" in a circle (due to positioning, it is difficult to photograph but it is there and easy to see) as well as "STERLING 925" and "TAXCO"; 1940s

Condition: excellent vintage with stunning presence, a humongous, gorgeous stone, inspired and rare design, with warmly glowing patina and no damage or repairs noted - this is a ring worthy of the best collection of vintage Mexican silver jewelry
