rarest ever 1960s Tane Mexican silver "Tarascan" Necklace

$3,250.00

I don’t often use the expression “Holy Grail” but Tane’s “Tarascan” necklace is one of those few pieces in the world of vintage Mexican silver jewelry that deserves it. Especially if it bears pre-1980 hallmarks - which is the case here. Habitually referred to as “the Tiffany’s of Mexico”, Tane has been producing holloware and jewelry in silver and gold since 1942 and is known throughout the world for the quality of craftsmanship, impeccable design and perfect finishing. Based on the ancient copper axes made by the Tarascans of western Mexico, the necklace is striking with its clean lines, the heftiness of its axe-shaped pendant and the strength of the neck-ring off which it hangs. A very special piece for me not only because of its rarity but also because it reminds me of the Minoan sacred “lavrys” (double axe), this was supposed to stay in my personal collection but I decided to release it - albeit with difficulty…

Size / Weight: 15” (neck-ring’s inner circumference, clasped); pendant is 3 5/8” long (with the bail); adds a 4” drop ot the neck-ring; 171.0 grams (on a postal scale)

Hallmarks / Date: “TANE MEXICO”, “STERLING 925” and a badly stamped Eagle mark; 1960s

Condition: excellent vintage, stunning in its presence, perfectly designed and balanced, with nice patina and no damage or repairs noted - a necklace worthy of the best collections
